Farm Logbook - Harvesting Continues
Harvests ContinueThis rainy year has been unusual for seed production. Diseases, lower production, the harvest season will also be shorter without late fruiting as in previous years. Extractions are currently continuing on our production site. The office team is supporting the production team, giving us all the opportunity to share ideas about seeds. The harvests are drying gently flat or in a dryer, with lettuce, leeks, beans, and cornflowers waiting to be threshed to release their precious seeds. The seeds will then be brushed and then passed through a densimetric table to remove impurities. The tomato seeds extracted using a wet process are placed in a drying cabinet, our latest acquisition, which will ensure excellent drying. The pumpkin seeds will be extracted later, there is no rush because the fruits keep for many months in pallocks in the shed. Nicolas bags the seeds as he goes along, helped by the CAT with whom we have been working since we started. After the harvests, there will be a big job of cleaning the tunnels and the seed-bearing crops in the open field. In a few weeks we will start sowing the beets in the open field. On the construction side, things are progressing, the bagging pole buildings are now equipped with frames and electricity and the cold room has been installed.
