Biodiversity - Source of balance
Biodiversity, or biological diversity, is a recent concept, dating back to 1992. This concept covers all forms of life on Earth (fauna, flora, natural environments, but also the human species) as well as the relationships established between them. Preserving biodiversity therefore means preserving species, ecosystems, and everything they can offer to the human species; it means designing a sustainable use of resources.
The United Nations has proclaimed 2010 the International Year of Biodiversity to raise awareness of the state and consequences of the decline of biodiversity worldwide. Faced with the threats to biodiversity (increasing urbanization, agricultural practices, deforestation, pollution, etc.), the conservation of biological diversity has become a global concern.
The Sainte Marthe Farm has been awarded the "2010 International Year of Biodiversity" label.
And what about seeds?
Seeds are nature's memory. They constitute humanity's common heritage and one of the most precious assets, essential to the survival of species.
Help us conserve rare or endangered plants by making your garden an impromptu refuge for all these treasures that will delight your table with flavors of yesteryear.
When we grow a vegetable garden, it's often out of a love of nature, in search of incomparable flavors, for the pleasure of cooking and serving fresh vegetables to family and friends. It's certainly also out of a desire to do things differently, certainly better and fresher, but above all varied. You want to rediscover old and forgotten vegetables, to be surprised by original vegetables, but did you know that within the same species, there are an incredible number of varieties available?
Carefully preserved thanks to the work of scientists, breeders and producers like the Ferme de Sainte Marthe, old varieties, like certain old vegetables that had fallen into oblivion, are now finding their way back into gardens.
The organic seeds we offer have been rigorously selected, carefully preserving the characteristics of all varieties over the years.
Thus, the numerous species and varieties available to you will allow you to create a delicious vegetable garden, rich in diversity and easy to maintain, which will meet your desires and the tastes of the whole family.
More than 600 varieties of organic seeds are available in the Ferme de Sainte Marthe catalog!
