EARTH ACIDIFIER
Soil acidifier usable in organic farming ideal for heather plants (hydrangeas, azaleas but also endives, potatoes, currants etc.) for its remineralizing action. What is pH? The pH characterizes the acidic, neutral or basic reaction of an environment on a scale of 1 to 14. The pH of most soils is between 4 and 9 (7 represents neutrality). Respect the affinities of plants / soils A soil can be naturally acidic (pH less than 7), neutral (pH7) or calcareous (pH greater than 7). In addition, not all plants have the same pH requirements and will be stunted or sick if the level of it does not suit them. In addition, it is important to know that the pH changes under the action of certain fertilizers and external factors. Hence the need to check the pH regularly (twice a year) either to select the plants to sow or plant, depending on it, or to lower or increase it in order to adapt it to the plants in place or desired. How to modify the pH of the soil? The acidifier lowers the pH of the soil and neutralizes excess limestone (pH 8-9) or acidifies neutral (pH7) or slightly acidic (pH 6-6.5) soils. Indeed, certain trace elements naturally present in the soil (iron, manganese, copper, zinc, aluminum) and which certain plants particularly need to develop are poorly or poorly assimilated by plants in calcareous soils. For example, iron deficiencies (iron chlorosis) are manifested on roses, hydrangeas, etc. by yellowing of the leaves; hence the need to bring the pH of the soil of these plants from 8/9 to 6/7. Other plants prefer clearly acidic soils (pH less than 6), they are called acidophilic or calciphobic. In this category we find heather plants (rhododendron, azalea, heather). As for the aluminum naturally present in the soil that hydrangeas (pink varieties only) need to turn blue, it is only perfectly assimilated by this plant in soil whose pH is between 4 and 5. How to use the soil acidifier? The soil acidifier can be used in all seasons but its effectiveness will be faster (about 8 weeks) in summer. Maintenance dose: 25g/m5. To lower the pH by one point (from 8 to 7, from 7 to 6 or from 6 to 5) here are the doses to use: 50 g/m2 in light soils, 75 g/m2 in loam soils, 100 g/m2 in heavy soils. Spread the soil acidifier on the surface of the soil and then incorporate it to a depth of 10 cm by raking. These doses will be doubled to obtain a reduction in the pH of 2 points (preferably proceed in two stages). The soil acidifier is an interesting alternative to the use of heather soil for example, a heavy, expensive and difficult to control solution. Use preferably in the morning or evening. Avoid temperatures above 20°C. Avoid windy weather.
