The velvety cosmos forms large, simple, two-tone flowers, dark red with white stripes. It measures approximately 90cm. An excellent cut flower, graceful with its airy foliage, it blooms from June until the first frosts, as long as it is placed in a sunny location. Ideal for creating a light and delicate atmosphere. A melliferous plant, it attracts bees as well as many insects and butterflies, and goldfinches can eat its seeds once ripe.

Sowing the velvety cosmos

Sow in March/April under cover, in pots or in a terrine, then transplant at the end of April/beginning of May in place, spacing the plants at least 40cm apart. Or sow directly in place in April/May, taking care to keep the soil fresh until; emergence, then thin the plants, leaving at least 40cm between each plant.

Interview
