Description
The pepino melon is a perennial nightshade, but is grown as an annual, although it can be preserved longer if grown in a heated greenhouse. The pepino melon can be grown in the ground or in a pot.
This plant produces magnificent juicy fruits, rich in vitamin C, with a surprising flavor, reminiscent of both the flavor and texture of pear and melon!
The fruits are eaten when ripe, raw or cooked, as an accompaniment to meat and fish.
Successful sowing of pepino pear melon
Sow in March/April in a warm bed (24°C) or in pots. Keep the soil moist. Germination takes an average of 10 days.
Growing pepino melons
Plant out in May, when frost is no longer a risk, in rich, well-drained soil, 60 cm in all directions.
Easy to take cuttings at the end of summer.
