Verbena officinalis is a perennial plant often grown as an annual, as it will only withstand temperatures down to -5°C . Called by the Gauls "herb for all ills" or "cures all", it was known for its many virtues.
It is used for its digestive, diuretic , and calming properties . It is consumed in relaxing infusions and to reduce fever .

How to successfully sow verbena

Sow in March-April : between 10 and 20°C, in a pot filled with potting soil. Verbena germination takes a long time: ideally, place the seedlings for 8 days at 5°C, then transfer them to 20°C.
If you want to spread out your production, re-sow every 3 to 4 weeks .
Transplant approximately 1 month after emergence.

Planting verbena in the garden

Plant in a rockery or perennial bed, in well -drained soil. Space the plants at least 50 cm apart in all directions. It is possible to plant verbena in a pot so that it can be brought indoors in winter.
Thin out the clump in spring and mulch in winter.
Watering : not very abundant, depending on the weather.
Water in case of drought during summer.

Harvesting verbena

Harvest the leaves and flowers as needed. They can be dried for use year-round.
