Vaccinium vitis-idaea
The bilberry is a small, creeping shrub with small, evergreen, shiny leaves , a few dozen centimeters high. This plant is native to woods , peat bogs and alpine areas. The white or pink flowering occurs in summer (April, May, September, October). The berries have a very tasty, acidic flavor, appreciated by birds .
How to successfully sow cranberries
Sowing possible in autumn , in open ground in rich, slightly acidic soil , in a partially shaded position or in a terrine placed outside.
Sowing in March : In this case, soak your seeds for 24 hours in February , place them in the fridge for 5-6 weeks, then sow them in March in a terrine with a peaty mixture, then place at 20°C . Germination takes 20 to 30 days .
Transplant into a pot at the 4 to 5 leaf stage.
Grow in pots for 1 year.
Cranberry Plantation
After a year in a pot, plant the cranberry plants in April - May in acidic soil or add heather soil before planting.
Cranberry prefers fresh but well-drained soils in partial shade to shade .
Cranberry Harvest
The small edible red berries are harvested from July to October .
