Garlic mustard, also known as garlic herb, is a biennial plant that can be used in several ways in cooking. Raw, it is eaten only chopped as a condiment, while the flowers are used to decorate dishes. The seeds, spicy like those of black mustard, can be used as a substitute in the preparation of mustard. Garlic mustard roots have a flavor similar to that of radish. In medicinal use, garlic mustard has diuretic properties, and is effective against rheumatism, asthma, and gout. A very melliferous herb, garlic mustard reaches a height of 65 cm and flowers in June and July. Successfully sowing garlic mustard: Sow in March and April for harvest the following spring. Planting garlic mustard: Plant in moist soil in partial shade.
