Description

The root of the Chantenay Red Heart 2 Carrot is voluminous, with sweet red flesh. It thrives even in clay soils. Ideal for outdoor cultivation. Summer sowing for winter harvest and storage.

Successfully sowing Chantenay carrots with red heart

  • Spring sowing, from March to June for summer harvest.
  • Summer sowing, from May to July for a harvest from early autumn to winter.
  • Sow in autumn, in September/October for spring harvest. Sow in November in mild climates and under cover. In case of intense cold, cover with a fleece for protection.

Sowing : thin in rows 25 to 30 cm apart in rich, loosened soil, in a sunny location. Thin out once to 4 or 5 leaves, 2 or 3 cm apart, then to 7/8 cm apart. You can combine with radishes, which means you don't have to thin out the carrot row several times; radishes also keep red spider mites away.
