CASEILLE JOSTA AB - PLANT
Ribes nigrum x r.divaricata
Josta gooseberry is a compact and robust bush, reaching about 1.5 m in height and 1 m in width. Its vigorous branches bear large, tangy, black-brown fruits, which appear slightly later. These fruits, very rich in vitamin C, antioxidants and pectin, are perfect for making jams, juices or sorbets.
The caseille plant adapts to all soil types and can thrive in sun or partial shade, especially in very hot regions. It requires a cold winter for good fruiting. Low in water requirements and particularly hardy, it can be self-sufficient in most regions of France with a simple mulch.
Harvest :
Josta gooseberry fruits usually ripen in late summer or early autumn (August-September, depending on the region and growing conditions). They should be harvested when fully ripe and have a deep black color. The berries are fairly easy to pick , as they detach relatively easily from the stems.
