Description

Catnip is a perennial aromatic and medicinal plant, used in infusions to relieve stomach aches or to delight cats who love its scent. Catnip is also called Cat Herb , in reference to the plant's stimulating and euphoric effects on felines. The leaves and flowering tops are used to make infusions.
Catnip is also used for its insect and aphid repellent oil .

Height : 50 to 80 cm.

How to successfully sow catnip

Sow from April to July in a seedbed or seed tray, covering the seeds with a few mm of seed compost. Keep the seed compost moist but not soggy.
For better germination, you can scarify the seeds lightly by placing them between two sheets of fine-grit sandpaper and rubbing them in a light circular motion .
Germination is quite slow.

Catnip Plantation

Plant the plants in a sunny location in drained soil, spacing the plants 40 to 60 cm apart.
The plant will not tolerate excess water .

Catnip harvest

Harvest the leaves as needed. The flowers are harvested from June to August .
