Celtuce lettuce, also known as "asparagus lettuce," is a variety native to China. It has long, deeply indented, purple-green leaves. It is crisp, fragrant, and of excellent taste, highly valued by restaurateurs. This variety is productive, resistant to cold and heat, and suitable for spring and fall cultivation.

Asparagus and Celtuce Lettuce

Asparagus lettuce is grown for its fleshy, crisp stem, which is eaten cooked. Its leaves are not generally eaten due to its advanced growth. This variety is grown in spring or fall.

Sowing : in a pot from April to May or from the end of July to the end of August, then plant out when the seedlings have 4 to 6 true leaves spaced 25 x 25 cm apart.

Harvest : Pull up the plants when they reach about 35 to 40 cm.

Suitable temperature : 12 - 20°C.

Celtuce lettuce is grown for its crisp, lanceolate leaves, which can be eaten raw in salads or cooked. It is more heat-resistant and can be sown from spring to fall.

Direct sowing : from March to mid-October.

Harvest : about a month and a half after sowing.

Planting distance : 10 x 25 cm.

Exposure : partial shade.

Suitable temperature : 18 - 25°C.
