perennial cultivated as an annual

Job's tears are native to South and East Asia, cultivated for 4000 years in India and 2000 years in China, it is a perennial herb, grown as an annual in our climates, measuring 1 m on average but can reach 2 m. Job's tears occupied a very important place before corn and rice became staple foods. Cultivated for its ornamental qualities and for its very original seeds. Black and shiny when ripe, these seeds become a blue-grey with a varnished appearance when dried. They are naturally pierced and are therefore used to make many jewelry such as necklaces, bracelets and rosaries, but also door curtains... Sometimes called Job's seed, Rosary seed, pearl plant... Sowing: in a terrine (25 ° C) at the end of winter. Scarifying the seeds is the guarantee of good germination. Transplant into pots when the plants are manageable. Plant in the ground when frost is no longer a risk, in a sunny to partially shaded position, in any type of soil, even poor. Requires watering.
