BLACK POPCORN AB
Zea mays
Black popcorn is a rustic variety of Romanian origin that produces beautiful small, purplish-black kernels. The dry kernels are eaten popped in oil with caramel, sugar, or salt.
Sowing: April - June. Plant in a sunny environment, every 40 cm in the rows, themselves spaced 70 cm apart. Hill up to encourage rooting. Harvest date: August - October, from dry ears. Dry thoroughly before popping.
Tip: combine corn and beans!
Many savvy gardeners grow their beans on corn plants. Corn grows tall, straight, and firmly anchored to the ground. Pole beans, as well as pickling cucumbers and gherkins, will find it a faithful ally for growing smoothly to the tops.
