Native to Korea , Korean perilla is a very beautiful two-tone variety producing large, pointed leaves with serrated edges , dark green on top and purple on the back. It is a bushy plant about 70 cm high.
The flavor of Korean perilla is mild , approaching a taste of basil and mint . All parts of the plant are edible .
How to successfully sow Korean perilla bicolor
- Soak the seeds for 24 hours before sowing.
- Sow in fine seed compost in spring.
- Cover with a thickness of potting soil equal to the diameter of the seeds .
- Keep the potting soil moist but not soggy .
- Germination can take up to 4 weeks .
Planting perilla
Plant in a sunny position in drained, light and rich soil , keeping 40 x 40 cm between plants.
Harvesting perilla
Harvest young shoots , leaves or flowers as needed, from July to October .
