Solanum abutiloides
Grown as an annual, this plant is a cousin of the tomato, reaching 1.5 to 2m, producing around 60 small orange-yellow fruits in clusters, with the flavor of exotic fruits. Eaten fresh in salads, sorbets or cooked in marmalade, sauce, etc. Grow in pots, protect from possible frost.
How to successfully sow tamarillo
Sow at the end of March-April in pots in a greenhouse heated to a constant 20°.
Tamarillo plantation
Transplant the 12-15 cm seedlings into rich, loose, healthy soil, in a sunny, wind-sheltered position, when frost is no longer a risk, in well-drained soil.
Keep 70 cm between rows and 1 m between rows. Place stakes in place before starting planting. Watering.
Install mulch at the base to keep it cool.
Harvesting tamarillos
Harvest from mid-August until frost.
