Valeriana officinalis
Valerian is a perennial plant that can grow up to 1.5 m in height, medicinal and ornamental . It likes fresh and humid soils. The pinkish-white flowers , fragrant and very melliferous, appear from the second year, between May and July . It is said to have sedative and calming properties, helping to regulate sleep disorders. It is also very melliferous .
In the fall, the roots of plants that are at least 3 years old are harvested. After drying, they are used as an infusion or by cold maceration .
It can be used as catnip , but be careful not to give too much.
Sowing valerian
Sowing : from March to May , in a sunny position , in fresh and moist soil . Sow in a nursery (for transplanting when the plants are 10-15 cm , 15 cm between plants) or directly in place. Keep 1 m between plants once in the garden.
