The 'Rita' gooseberry is a compact shrub, slightly less vigorous than other varieties, reaching about 1.5 m in height and 1 m in width, making it ideal for small gardens or balconies. Its large, slightly acidic, black-brown fruits are the latest of the gooseberry varieties, requiring a longer ripening period. These fruits, rich in vitamin C, antioxidants and pectin, are perfect for making jams, juices or sorbets.
The Rita caseille adapts to all types of soil and can grow in the sun or partial shade, especially in very hot regions. It needs a cold winter to flower and bear fruit abundantly. Not very demanding in water and particularly hardy, it can be autonomous in most French regions thanks to a simple mulch at the foot.
