Description

Cardoons are delicious cooked in butter, cream, with meat juice, or in a gratin. The leaves are used in soups or like spinach.

This variety of chard produces multicolored chards: yellow, red, orange, pink, purple, and white, with light, dark, or bronze green foliage. Highly decorative, it can be used as an ornamental in the vegetable garden, while retaining its culinary qualities.

Sowing multicolored cardoons

Under cover: February to March

Outdoors: April to September

Sow 3 to 4 seeds every 40 cm in the row, with rows 40 cm apart, in a sunny location.

Keep the soil cool until emergence.

When the plants have a few leaves, keep only the most vigorous one per pocket.

Interview

Frequent watering.

Leeks are sensitive to drought, so mulching is recommended in case of extreme heat.
